01Clinical procedure
FUT strip method
Follicular Unit Transplantation, sometimes called the strip method, is a hair-restoration technique reserved for selected cases. Whether FUT is the most appropriate option for a particular patient is a clinical decision discussed at consultation.
Suitability and technique selection are assessed individually at consultation.

02What this treatment is
How FUT is approached
What FUT is
FUT involves taking a strip of tissue from a donor area and dividing it into follicular units for placement in a recipient area. It is one of several techniques used in hair restoration and is reserved for selected cases where it is the clinically appropriate option.
Who it may suit
FUT may be considered where donor yield or specific clinical factors make it a reasonable option. Whether FUT, FUE, DHI or a non-surgical pathway is most suitable depends on hair characteristics, donor area, hair-loss pattern and individual goals.
How planning works
Treatment planning begins with a private consultation. The donor area is assessed carefully, alternatives are discussed, and a written plan with an itemised quotation is provided after assessment.
On the day of treatment
What the day involves is explained clearly during consultation. The structure of a FUT day is described in the written plan, so the patient knows what to expect at each stage before they arrive.
Recovery and aftercare
Recovery and donor-area expectations vary between individuals, and are particular to FUT. These — along with aftercare guidance and follow-up arrangements — are discussed before treatment and set out in the written plan.
03Suitability
FUT is reserved for selected cases
FUT is not offered as a default. It is considered only where it is the clinically appropriate option for a particular patient, after assessing the donor area, hair-loss pattern, prior treatments and personal goals.
- FUT is not the right choice for every patient.
- Donor-area implications are discussed openly during consultation.
- If FUE, DHI or a non-surgical pathway is more appropriate, that is the recommendation we will make.
Treatment recommendations are made after assessment. A consultation is a conversation, not a sales meeting.
04Risks and limitations
All procedures carry risks and limitations
FUT is a clinical procedure with its own risks, limitations and recovery considerations — including donor-area implications. These are discussed openly during consultation, alongside alternative techniques, before any decision to proceed.

05FUT — common questions
Common questions
FUT may be considered where donor yield, hair-loss pattern, prior treatments or other clinical factors make it the appropriate option for a particular patient. It is one of several techniques and is not used by default.
FUT involves a donor-area incision. The realistic appearance, expected healing and long-term considerations are discussed openly during consultation, alongside alternative techniques.
Suitability depends on clinical assessment. We do not recommend FUT — or any technique — before consultation.
Recovery varies between individuals. Donor-area considerations are particular to FUT and are discussed before treatment as part of the written plan.
Pricing depends on individual assessment and the technique selected. A written plan and itemised quotation are provided after consultation, before any decision to proceed.
